My dear friend Jessica had a birthday coming up so, in order to celebrate, I designed her name in Bengali script and learnt how to use a laser-cutter to make her a coaster. I wanted to challenge myself typographically and I knew that designing something in non-Roman script would do that.
This project ticked many boxes for me: hand-making a gift, mastering a new tool (the laser-cutter), applying my designs to a new medium and challenging myself typographically in a new language.
